Since July, Hidrogea has intensified preventative maintenance on the Cartagena drain network. The aim of the work is to ensure the collectors in the sewer and rainwater systems are in optimum condition for the impact of heavy rains in September and October.

With this action plan, which is to run until the end of September, 5,562 gutters in the drain system have already been cleaned, guaranteeing better rainwater run-off during rainy periods.

So far this year, 6,870 gutters have been cleaned. Cleaning of the gutters in the Alameda de San Anton and Tentegorra sector is currently in the execution phase.

To date, a total of 6,870 gutters and grilles have been cleaned. This action plan involved an exhaustive inspection of 140 critical points in the sewer system to ensure they are in perfect working order for rainy periods.

As well as the preventative maintenance in 64 wastewater pumping stations in the city carried out throughout the year, the action plan includes cleaning work in tanks to prevent incidents with the electrical pumps.

Notably, all the critical wastewater pumping stations are remotely monitored and controlled so faults and incidents are instantly detected at the control centre, which is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In order to complete the action plan on time, the city water service concessionary company first cleaned 4.16 km of accessible collectors.

A further 141 km of non-accessible collectors throughout the city were cleaned at the start of the year, notably in Fuente Cubas, La Aparecida, Los Mateos, Lo Campano, Vista Alegre and San Ginés.
